I always disliked HDR until I went on the hike to Grouse Mountain with my friends. I felt HDR exaggerates colour too much but I realised I was wrong. HDR does not create colour out of nothing. The colour is there but HDR just brings it out more. I rarely use a tripod because I dislike carrying it around. I shot these three pictures using three different exposures continuously and combine them in photoshop. Sometimes the result is not satisfactory because hand holding 1/5 could be really difficult...
The first picture was shot near a lake in Japan. I was lucky enough to find a flat place to use it as a tripod. The last two were the amazing view from Grouse.
I am also lucky enough to have a Sony A7 which has great dynamic range even without shooting HDR. However, I try to shoot HDR whenever I can to not only get the colours but also the correct exposure.
